Bookplate (fragment) for Anna Geissinger of Upper Saucon, dated February 28, 1804, unsigned, loose in the front of a copy of the 1803 edition of the Mennonite hymnbook Kleine Geistliche Harfe der Kinder Zions (Germantown: Michael Billmeyer). The ownership text is fraktur lettering, filled with pink-red, yellow and blue, followed by an possessive verse and the date in German script. The text is in a decorative multicolored frame and surrounded by multicolored leaves and flowers in a basically symmetrical pattern. The bottom quarter of the plate is missing. The book also contains the name "George" inside the front cover (in English script) [this was Anna's husband, George Clemmer], and birth records for the children of Anna & George Clemmer on two front flyleaves, in German script, dated 1810-1828. The surname is included with each entry. A slip of paper with three prayers or hymns in German script, dated 1824, is loose in the book. |
