Description |
A natural linen sampler with one alphabet set and a modified mirrored layout of silk embroidery. Use of pink, light green, red, light brown orange, ecru, dark brown, gold and dark green silk for various motifs, including the central cross-stitched design of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. At the top of the tree are two cross-stitched facing birds resting on a branch. Above the tree motif is the year "1796" in cross-stitch and flanked by three crowns and the initials "S.J." in uppercase block lettering. The tree is also surrounded by three queen stitched strawberries. Below the tree is the inscription "ADAM AND EVE WARE FORMD [were formed] OF DUST" in uppercase block lettering. Underneath the inscription are the cross-stitched initials "L.Y." in uppercase block lettering, flanked by two stars, a chair and a candlestick. At the top there is one alphabet set comprised of uppercase block lettering (missing the letter's "J" and "U") and followed by the numbers 1-12. The maker's name "LIDIA YEAKEL" follows in uppercase block lettering. |
