Description |
A natural linen sampler with an unfinished alphabet set and a random layout of silk cross-stitched embroidery. At the top there is a portion of the alphabet, with only the letters "A-Q" (missing the letter "J" ) embroidered in block lettering. Located underneath the alphabet is the year "1833" and the initials "L.S." in block lettering. Use of dark brown, green, cream, beige, yellow and blue silk thread for various motifs, including a man in traditional clothing, a chair, a dog, bird, a snake and various floral designs. All four sides are left unfinished and the sampler has been whipstitched to a paper mount. |
