KNITTED BEAD PURSE/BAG : VICTORIAN At the top edge of the beaded bag is a drawstring made with an olive green silk casing and black drawstring. The green fabric is fade on the outside and appears to be mare brown in color. Along the inside top edge is the date 1852 and the name M.C.Russell written on the leather with black ink. Right below the drawstring is a 0.750 inch black beaded section with 10 quilt like stars. The 4 star "petals" are each beaded , one yellow, one light blue, one dark blue and one medium blue with 4 white seed beads in the center. The next section has two rows of turquoise blue beads at the top and bottom with rose-like flowers, buds and leaves set on a gray beaded background. There are 2 large "roses" on each side. The large flowers are pink with 2 shades of red and have a few white beads near the top. The leaves are made with 2 shades of green beads and the buds are mostly a gold color but there are some pink/red flower buds too. The bottom section is a scene of 4 small buildings, a few trees, grass and a church set on a black background. The four houses are grouped next to each other. The building roofs are red and their windows and doors are gold, white , light and dark blue beads. The church is made with gray and pink beads. The trees and grass have two different shades of green beads and the tree trunks/branches are a rusty red. Each black beaded fringe loop is about 1.500 inch long. The two outer fringe pieces on each side are made with black- rounded beads and all the other fringe beads appear to be black cube beads. |
